In monitoring changes in the "social" landscape
of the seven states that make up the North
Central Region, we considered changes in population, housing,
and personal income.
In an attempt to create a vivid picture of how the economy
of the Region has changed, we examined what some have referred
to as the "frontier" economy and the "conservation"
economy. In particular, we mapped change in personal income
derived from "Lumber and Wood Products" (frontier
economy) and "Amusement and Recreation" (Conservation
economy), which are classes of jobs within the "Manufacturing"
and "Service" sectors, as defined by the U.S. Department
of Commerce.
This slide show consists of a series of maps that depict change
in personal income attributable to "Amusement and Recreation."
