NCRS - The Changing Midwest Assessment

Change in Deer Harvest, 1980 - 2000

Beautiful 7 point buck

Although, by their own account, the resource management agencies of the seven states that make up the North Central Region have only recently begun practicing "scientific" deer management, deer hunting has been "regulated" for more than 100 years.

Specifically, the responsible agency or agencies in each state have tracked the number of license sales and calculated estimates of the number of deer harvested.

This slide show consists of a series of maps that depict how the harvest intensity of both antlered and antlerless whitetail deer has changed from roughly 1980 to 2000.

Note: Harvest intensity is the number of deer harvested per square mile.
